Andre Berto ‘in the running’ to fight Floyd Mayweather

Berto reacts to the recent speculation over Mayweather’s.
ANDRE BERTO is happy to be considered as a potential opponent for Floyd Mayweather on September 12 amid speculation over who the unbeaten pound-for-pound king will elect to close out his career against.
‘Money’ previously name-dropped Berto and Karim Mayfield as the two men most likely to be standing in the opposite corner for what he claims will be his last fight.
The Florida native recently became the bookmakers’ favourite to face Mayweather in September and Andre released a short statement in response to the conjecture.
“I’m happy to be in the running for this fight and am definitely up for the challenge. I know it will be a great fight if it happens,” the statement read.
Reports have also emerged claiming Mayweather is considering having the fightbroadcast on free-to-air television in America, rather than on pay-per-view, a platform he has fought on for the past 10 years.
Berto’s stable-mate Amir Khan has been gunning for a Mayweather clash for some time now, but may miss out once again.
Berto, who last fought in March when he stopped Josesito Lopez in six, is already preparing for his next fight, whenever it may be, and his trainer, Virgil Hunter, believes his man has the attributes to dethrone Mayweather.
