Floyd: Blame Pacquiao for dud fight

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. said fight fans should not be mad at him after his supposed super fight with Manny Pacquiao turned out to be a dud.

Mayweather said in his most recent interview with
Showtime's Jim Gray that he merely did what he has been doing all these years: outsmart his foes.
''The fans have to be mad at Pacquiao. They can't be mad at me. I done my job,'' the unbeaten, but controversial boxer told Gray as quoted Boxing scene
Fans were expecting an explosive match between Pacquiao and Mayweather, two of the most popular names in the sport, during their ''Fight of the Century'' last May.
But the American frustrated the Filipino's offense to secure a unanimous decision. His ploy, however, prevented any boxing fireworks from happening, to the dismay of those who paid to watch the bout.
After the fight, Pacquiao blamed the dip of his performance to a bum shoulder, a claim belied by the Mayweather camp.
The American added that fans already knew he was mainly a defensive fighter. He said he merely stuck to his tried and tested strategy which is to avoid getting hit.
''I never said I was a checkers player. I'm a chess player. I play chess. Every move is calculated,'' said Mayweather.
''But the fans should've thought about that when I was running through everybody at one particular time.''
The fight generated over 4.4 million pay-per-view buys and more than $400 million in revenue, nearly doubling the record of 2.48 million in 2007 set by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya.
