Floyd Mayweather beat Andre Berto to move to 49-0 - equalling Marciano's record - but Glenn McCrory doesn't think it'll be his final fight as he says
So it’s all over. 49-0 and Floyd Mayweather says he is now retired after beating Andre Berto.
But do any of us really think that is the last time we’ve seen Floyd Mayweather box? I don’t.
He’s equalled the record of the great Rocky Marciano, but is he going to leave it there and respect Marciano’s record?
He calls himself the greatest ever, so I can’t see him not try and prove it.
Is he the greatest ever? For me no. He’s a fabulous fighter and deserves so much respect for what he’s done in the sport. The names on his record are a who’s who of legends of his era.
However, how many of his fights would you genuinely like to watch again?
He wasn’t Mr Exciting but give him credit he did put bums on seats. If my son wanted to box I’d probably want him to box like Mayweather – hit and not get hit and make a load of money.
But he just lacked that excitement that other greats such as Hagler, Hearns, Ray Leonard and that type of fighter had. He’s lacking what you would call that legendary display like all the aforementioned had.
Is this the end of the Mayweather machine? I don’t think so.
