Ryan Burnett beats Jason Booth to land British bantamweight title

Belfast man Ryan Burnett clinched the British bantamweight title after earning a points win over veteran Jason Booth in Manchester on Saturday night.
Burnett, 23, floored the 38-year-old in the opening round after a combination but Booth showed his experience to take the bout the distance.
The new champion had never gone further than six rounds in his 11 career bouts.

Burnett had Booth in trouble in the fifth and eighth rounds and he earned a 120-107 verdict from all three judges.
Booth had been aiming to become the first boxer in 80 years to become a three-weight British champion.
The Nottingham-born fighter previously held the British flyweight and super-bantamweight titles and also was Commonwealth champion at three weights.
Burnett is now trained by Adam Booth having recently moved to Eddie Hearn's Matchroom stable.
The Belfast man was previously managed by former world champion Ricky Hatton.

Martin Murray fails to take WBO title from Arthur Abraham

Britain's Martin Murray fell short of taking the WBO super-middleweight title from Arthur Abraham, losing a split points decision in Hannover.
Abraham, the home favourite, took the bout 115-112, 116-111, 112-115.
Murray, 33, fighting for a world title for the fourth time, started well and, after Abraham improved, rocked the 35-year-old in the eighth round.

But Abraham, with impeccable defence and accurate flurries, had too much class for the St Helens fighter.
Even a point docked from Murray in the 11th round for using the shoulder - he had previously received several warnings for holding - had no bearing on the final result.
Abraham, who completed a fifth successful defence, improved his record to 44 wins and four defeats, while Murray suffers a third loss to go with 32 wins and one draw - the four fights he has failed to win were all for world titles.
Though he matched the Armenia-born German in the opening three rounds, getting close any time Abraham looked like unloading, Murray was pushed backwards from round four onwards and took a huge right in the seventh.
Murray, though, was able to absorb Abraham's best and landed a shocking right of his own in the eighth, one that put the champion in danger for only time in the bout.
The Briton was unable to capitalise, though, and Abraham kept him it at bay for the remainder, drawing the point deduction he had been asking of the referee for most of the fight.
And, when the decision came, Murray only had the favour of one of the three American judges.
Though two of his previous world title fights ended in debatable points decisions - a draw with Germany's Felix Sturm in 2011 and a unanimous decision loss to Argentina's Sergio Martinez in 2013 - Murray this time has less right to feel aggrieved.
Meanwhile, on the night Anthony Crolla became WBA lightweight champion, Tyrone Nurse beat Chris Jenkins for vacant British super-lightweight title and Ryan Burnett beat Jason Booth for vacant bantamweight crown.

Anthony Crolla beats Darleys Perez to win WBA lightweight title

Anthony Crolla knocked out Colombia's Darleys Perez in the fifth round to win the WBA lightweight title.
After four cagey rounds, Crolla landed a massive left hook to the body that floored the champion, who could not make the count.
Crolla, 29, was fighting in front of a raucous home crowd in Manchester after taking Perez to a draw in July.
And his world title win comes less than a year after he suffered a fractured skull when confronting burglars.
"It is an amazing feeling, it is a dream come true, now I just want many more nights like this in Manchester," said Crolla, who now has 30 wins, four defeats and three draws.
"I've dreamed this dream since I was 10. I didn't know it was going to be this good. It is better than I ever dreamed it would be."
In December 2014, Crolla was hit with a concrete slab as he attempted to apprehend two men who had broken into the house of his next-door neighbours. He also suffered a broken ankle.
He had been due to fight Richar Abril for the WBA title in January, but eventually got his chance against Perez in Manchester in July, failing to take the belt in a drawn decision after many observers thought he had done enough to win.

But in this return bout, the result was in no doubt.
There was little to choose between the two in the opening four rounds, though Crolla was moving well and regularly making Perez miss.
Then, in the fifth, with Perez on the ropes, Crolla switched his attack from the head and nailed the champion in the side.
Perez shook as his head as he fell to the canvas, remaining on his knees as the 10-count was completed, sealing only his second defeat after 32 wins and a draw.
"I was very confident I would get him out of there," added Crolla. "I thought it would have been a head shot. I touched him with a right hand and sunk him with a left.
"After the first fight I went away and worked hard with the team, we have worked so hard in the gym. I just have to thank the team around me. Joe [Gallagher, trainer] has turned my career around and so many people had given up on me.
"I have come to this arena since I was 10 watching Naseem Hamed, Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton. To do it here is what I dreamed of."
